This 6-week program dives deep into the inner workings of everything aviation. It starts out with an overview of aviation; how it all got started, the sectors of aviation, types of aircraft, aircraft engines, the parts of an airplane, cockpit controls, and how we stay safe in the sky. We cover how airplanes fly by learning about the 4 forces of flight, the, the directional movements an aircraft can make and what controls those movements. Students will also learn how weather affects flight, the instruments pilots use to navigate in bad weather and the FAA guidelines for doing so. We will even play Air Traffic Controller to practice the procedures for communicating on the radio with ATC.

This is a very interactive program with lots of hands on activities to reinforce our learning (including building our own giant carboard airplane/glider, drone flying and more. We will have guest speakers from different sectors of aviation and 2 optional field trips (transportation not included).
